Denounced to Death

Chapters 92-93

This week’s chapters felt a bit minor, like we are waiting to get to something good. The plot isn’t too heavy: Zhao Zilong shows that he’s still got it, and Kongming steals the strategist Jiang Wei. He thinks he could be a worthy successor.

There’s some good suspense in Chapter 92. Some of the named characters that I know could die at any point. I thought we would see the end of some of them, but they mostly pulled through.

I’d say the most unique story overall this week was Kongming’s argument with Wang Lang. It was such a takedown that when it was over, “Wang Lang’s chest heaved with rage. A loud cry broke from him, and he fell dead from his horse.” (p. 1664). He was denounced to death! If only it were so easy. The people who deserve the most denouncing in our day seem to have so little shame that it’s impossible to imagine them having a heart attack from being denounced.
